A 50/50 split is not guaranteed when separating your finances. The court will have consideration to all the circumstances in each particular case which includes the available assets, the needs of each party, age and duration of the marriage, standard of living, and contributions to the marriage and conduct. The aim of the court is to ensure fairness between the parties and for the assets to be shared equally unless a departure from that equality is required.
